So work was a pain in the ass. I basically had two bugs which turned out to be unrelated. One was a complete pain to track down. I ended up going round and round in circles until a simple mistake was found. The other one just turned out to be a typo. So now all the shaders are at a stage where they do what they did before, but in a much more friendlier way. Walked Sahsa, Jamie walked Dillon, badly. More work. Jamie’s family arrived just as I was going out for a run, so cut it a bit short, but didn’t want to deal with the initial dog interaction. Came back and got on with the cooking. I did almost a kilo of chicken and five bags of rice. The whole lot was devoured with no complaints in about five minutes. Jamie made pudding. I caught up with the Grand Prix’s. Tomorrow I have some more bug tracing to do.

I’ve either walked too much or developed some kind of thrombosis
Started a bit later than I planned, never mind. Spent the whole day on shaders again, almost there now. Well almost at a position where I can start doing things, rather than having to change them to be able to do things. It will all make sense in the end, just a huge amount of work involved to get there. Weather was a little bit changeable. Walked the dogs, it went from pissing down to boiling hot and it was very humid. My legs have ached all day, not sure if it’s because I’ve walked too much recently or they are about to drop off or something. Was going to walk to the gym, but weather was crap so drove and did Combat. Did more work. Think I’ll have an early night and rest up.
As the one thing I really love is a crowd
We got up and walked the dogs. I then ventured into town as I was after some shoes. It was the harbour festival and it was heaving. Walked through Queen’s Square, it was horrendous. Failed to but any shoes. Came home, showered and then we walked to Lisa’s where once again I drank my own bodyweight in lager, which is getting a tad boring now. We didn’t leave until gone 4AM.
So this morning wasn’t exactly a rocket start. I had a couple of coffees and read the paper. We then took the dogs to the field and they played with the ball for a bit. Came back and had lunch. Then headed to Severn Beach, cocked up a bit with the GPS there as the caches for that area were not stored, so actually headed slightly further back towards home and did a few outstanding ones that way. It was a lovely afternoon. Came back and did some gardening, then cleaned out the lizards and did the accounts. I’m now going to have a bath. The excitement.
The plane now departing gate one is an x-ray machine
So got up far too early to face all the rush hour traffic that didn’t exist. So we got to the hospital about half an hour early. It’s all very space age, from the ANPR car park to everything being marked as ‘gates’. You sit in a departure lounge to be called. Jamie was actually called early, everything was fine and we were back home well before my normal start time. Walked the dogs, shopping arrived. Finished bang on five as I’d already clocked up far too many hours this week. Walked to the gym, did Pump, walked home. Went to the pub with my sister, drank my own bodyweight in lager.
Shafted by a compiler
Had a bit of a headache this morning, soon shifted by a few cups of coffee. Working very hard on shaders again, another nine hour shift on that. Which was a shame as I was going to go out this evening. Walked the dogs. Lots of Amazon parcels arrived. Worked more. Got shafted by a nasty shader compiler bug. It was optimising things out of a structure when it shouldn’t have. Ended up going for a long run in the end. Not sure what’s happening the weekend, weather all over the place at the moment. Taking Jamie to the hospital tomorrow morning for his throat scan thing. They will start at the top chin and work done, the scanner thing will be like being on a roller coaster.
Amazon Prime day – or how to behave like mother
So started this morning quite well after a good nights sleep. Got straight on with it. Lots more shader twiddling, getting things running from various functions. Was successful at the end of a very long day. Walked the dogs. Walked to Pump, walked home. Lots of walking.
Today was also, ‘Amazon Prime’ day. So basically I spent a few quid on some almost complete tat. After all, how can anyone live with a bike pump, a bbq tool set, or an Avicii CD?
And today was about normal maps
Didn’t sleep well, never mind. Started early and got on with it. Had a lot of shader compilation issues to sort out. Managed to get to the bottom of it eventually. Fixed up a few other things. Everything is going to plan at the moment, I’m sure it will all go horribly wrong soon. Walked the dogs with Jamie. Weather awful, but still managed an hour run in the drizzle this evening. More of the same tomorrow I’m sure.
It’s all about sampler states, the excitement
Started actually on time and found the network down which was rather annoying. Sorted that out and cracked on. Today was all about compiling shaders, but we are trying to move forward and have them more DX11 than DX9. But there’s still some legacy stuff in there which I’m in two minds about changing. I think I’ll give it another half a day before just killing the lot and redoing it. Weather was bloody awful so dogs only got a short walk. Went to Combat, Laverne did half of it badly, so business as usual there. Came back and did a couple more hours. Going to have an early night and read for it a bit I think. Lots of work to sort out tomorrow.
I have new running shoes, so no excuse to not go running
So started Saturday with a text message telling me where I was going. So sat with a map and the wind spot charts and planned it all out. Drove up to Staverton, where we went through doing it all again in a different way. Jumped in the new R22 and off we went. This time though however I got it absolutely spot on and found all three targets. So very pleased with that all in all. Drove home and got the house ready for a bit of a party. We had a few people round, got very pissed and had a BBQ. It ended up playing Sing Star on the giant projection screen. I actually won a couple of rounds.
So got up this morning, had coffee and read the paper. Then attempted to get Jamie’s PC working. Re-seated everything, but it was very much dead. So we went to the computer fair down the road and picked up some new bits. I then spent all afternoon putting it together. It works fine, but Jamie is now moaning that he can’t find a Windows 7 CD which matches his install. If he looked after his stuff then he wouldn’t have any issues in the first place.
Went for a run. Did a few bits and then went for another one. Have new running shoes. They appear to work fine.
I’m having a bath.
It’s all about the format, data format that is
Captain James texted me first thing about flight tomorrow. Didn’t want to start too early so asked him to text me the waypoints first thing and then I’ll do the flight log and planning. Started work. Today was all about data formats for surfaces. I’m torn between a wide one, or a narrow one but an extra one. Oh the joys. Also slightly shafted by my own shader compiler as it doesn’t support non float targets. Walked the dogs. Walked to the gym. Did Pump. Was nice to see Laverne back, although her singing pissed me off after a couple of tracks so when she wasn’t looking I killed her microphone volume and she didn’t notice. Walked home. Wrote a 2,000 word work forum post that no one will ever read. Pizza time.
