When you’re not happy with a takeoff but get to over analyse it afterwards

Had a nice relaxing start to the day in bed. Had coffee and cereal. Read the paper. But couldn’t procrastinate for too long as I had an important passenger. Anya arrived on time. I do like prompt people, even though I could never be like that myself. We departed for Staverton. I gave my standard safety briefing, ‘Don’t touch anything and don’t point a camera in my direction as it may reflect the sun’. I could go into the brace position and emergency exits, but lets be honest, an engine failure in an R22 is a rare event, surviving and engine failure in an R22 is an even rarer event, if the hamster stops running, I’ve got very little time to react. We managed to get the aircraft a bit early so started up and headed out. Now, Staverton is having some work done at heli-south so you can’t fly over it. Two seven was the active runway but the wind was coming from 330. I crabbed it as much as I could but I ended up doing a crosswind takeoff and turning downwind at only about three hundred feet. The rest of the flight was uneventful, flew to the south, across to Cinderford and then up to Ross-On-Wye. Then via Tewksbury back to Gloucester. Drove back home, had a light lunch and then drove into town. Spent the next few hours walking into town, through the harbour and headed towards the balloon fiesta. Unfortunately the route to it was all blocked off. So I ended up going via a park in Bedminster and back to the centre. Walked back towards the car. Texted Ben that I was in the vicinity, we met up for a pint. Discussed the 27 takeoff issue, apparently I did exactly the right thing and compromises sometimes have to be made, I’ll make a good pilot yet.

So now I have to bill my mother, time for a summons?

Can’t complain about work today, it was tough going, but got stuff done with very few interruptions, so that always counts as a good day. Tanner left first thing this morning. I was hoping perhaps then I could spend some time with Jamie, but he’s working this weekend and then next weekend he’s got someone else over. We may get a day together at some point. Nice day today, although it threatened rain this evening. Walked Sasha, walked to Pump, Laverne is away at the moment so Nick did it, so everything was out of time with the music as normal.

I need to go through last weeks shopping list and work out what mother owes me. I also need to go through the B&Q receipts to work out what she owes me there as well. Apparently she’s been moaning that the bathroom is cold and that she wants a full enclosure. Ungrateful bitch, she’ll need to pay me what she owes me or I’ll start removing and selling stuff from her house.

Oh look a Zubat….said no one ever

Got stuck in and invaded a lot of shaders. It’s hard going and fairly complex work to get it all right, but made good progress. Took Dillon to the vet for his boosters, this time they said they will operate on his bum so I’ll keep and eye on it and book him in if it prolapses again. So Sasha had to wait until this evening for her walk. By the time I came back Jamie and Tanner had gone to the pub for food, thanks for the invite. I went for a seven mile run instead and ate salad.

Fuck it, I got a Snorlax

Started so well, then I ended up with an oddity. I don’t like oddities. Then noticed after a bit of testing it was fine on PC. Spent basically the rest of the day tracing said oddity. It was odd. Traced the cause in the end….the normal map is 8888 format, this gets converted to a Bc5. However on a certain console its treating the 8888 as sRGB not linear. Have to get tools to sort the scripts out. Fun one, all in all. Walked Sasha, finished my 10Km egg and hatched a very powerful Snorlax, very pleased with that. Went out this evening and walked for a few hours, picked up more Pidgeys.

Confined to building cutlery sculptures

Started vaguely on time. Spent the bulk of the day though procrastinating about a certain bug. Many people in denial, it got fixed in the end but I got bored and took the dogs out for a couple of hours, there’s only so much arguing getting nowhere that I could take. Kind of lost enthusiasm at that point so just did an SDK upgrade. Got some good stuff planned for tomorrow though. Talking of upgrades, Windows did it’s major upgrade today, thankfully no issues and all running again. Talking of running, I did a six mile one this evening. I then let Jamie and Tanner use the dinning room to do his radio show. So I’m now sat in his office. It’s not too bad actually, I’ve built a sculpture using cutlery I found on the floor and also found the other pin sentry machine. The TV even streams fine from my recorder, so I think that’s a good result.

It’s beginning to get a bit dull now

Today we were supposed to be working on something, but that all got cancelled due to more bug hunting and that’s not over yet. Weather was better, walked Sasha, but no route marching today, it was over in an hour. I’m changing my Pokemon Go playing strategy slightly, need to forget about high combat power pidgeys as they are a sod to catch and it’s all getting a bit dull. Walked to gym, did Combat, walked home. Sorted through four bags of rubbish Jamie had collected that wouldn’t fit in the bin. Recovered about a dozen plastic bottles, twenty cans and a shit ton of cardboard, plus a full bottle of shampoo and about twenty socks. It now all fits in the bin.

Level 22, bring it on

So after coffee and cereal I spent half hour evolving my Pokemon. Shot up to level twenty-two. Walked to Tesco’s and picked up some stuff for Bbq. Then spent the next God knows how many hours walking Sasha. Finally got home and then walked myself a bit more. Got Bbq going. Jamie finally turned up with his friend ‘Tanner’, who’s Canadian, but I can forgive that. We had the Bbq, Sasha was annoying, she’s now passed out. Jamie was doing a shopping list, I phoned mother and got her’s. We checked out, now I’m getting no end of text messages, she had one opportunity. Been a strange weekend, have a feeling it’s going to be a strange week.

When sorting out your Pokedex takes longer than your accounts

Morning started as normal with coffee and cereal. Walked Sasha to an inch of death, okay, wasn’t that bad but we walked in the heat for almost four hours. Had a quick lunch and then parked at mothers. Spent the next four hours catching Pokemon. Dropped my artwork off at the tattooist. Then spent the next few hours catching Pokemon. Good fun. Jamie is away at ‘Summer of Sonic’, so I’m at home getting quite pissed to be honest.

“It seems as if the lighting is just brightening the parts up.”

Once again spent the bulk of the day on a certain project’s bugs. The above is actually a quote from an artist, which is why I’m a raging alcoholic permanently on the verge of suicide, the shit I have to deal with…

Beautiful day today, Sasha had a nice long walk, mainly so I could avoid artists. Did some more bugs and some profiling when I got back. Walked to the gym, did Pump, walked home. Since I’ve been taking Ibuprofen an hour or so before the class I haven’t had any leg issues at all. Did a bit more work and then prepared the artwork ready for the tattooist. I feel like a rather mammoth walk tomorrow so will drop it in on my travels.

How to make me feel old

Work today was all about bug fixing on another project. It’s getting close to release so needed some serious bug hunting done by somebody who knows what they are doing. Hence I did it and knocked a load of issues off. Had a phone call with a friend at an agency. We always catch up every few months. I said I’d just clocked up thirty years in the industry, he reminded me that he was twenty-five, I’ve been in the industry five years longer than he’s been on the planet. Walked Sasha, weather wasn’t too bad, but by this evening it had all clouded over again. I went out for a long walk and got rained on a couple of times.
